I am very excited and honored to be nominated for the Liebster Award by the two wonderful mamas from The Mothershop! So what is the Liebster award? I didn’t know either. However I soon learned that it is an award given to bloggers, by bloggers, to show appreciation and recognition for their work! It’s a way to discover new blogs and introduce yourself to other mamas, doing what they do best. For me, photography. I love to blog about sessions with clients, tips and tricks for the average photographer, as well as the odd thing here and there about motherhood, my kids and just when I feel I have something to say. I appreciate you being here and reading along.

1. How do you balance blogging with being a mother?
Great question. I have people ask me ALL THE TIME, “how do you do it?” “I don’t know how you do everything you do Jenna.” Well, I want to tell them, so here goes.
I, like you, try my best to balance blogging/photography/work with my job as a mother. It’s not easy. I find windows of opportunity and use them. Once I get into wedding season, I’ll be finding childcare so my work on the computer (editing, marketing, etc.) will be done, not in those nap time, bed time windows. Oh, and my house is a bit messy. The other thing and I suppose the most important, is that every one of my ventures has organically evolved into a partnership, with varying degrees of involvement. What do I mean, I have people around me working towards the same goals.
I am part of a few little adventures – photography is one, that’s here, and I do it with my sister in law, Aimee. I also run a fitness class for moms called WORKOUT AT THE PARK every summer. I have a business partner, Felicia that teaches that classes for me. Stemming from that I came up with the best tee – STRONG AS A MOTHER, now sold on a webpage managed by a wonderfully capable mother and business woman, Tamara. Go grab a tee! I have a small online thrift store Hobbs General Store filled with vintage, pretty treasures. I do that with my other sister in law, Shelby.
So how do I do it? I strive for balance as best as I can, find windows of opportunity, surround myself with strong, capable women and always put mothering first. But most of all, I do it with love, and it just always seems to work out.
2. How did you come up with the name for your blog?
Hobbs Photography. We wanted to come up with something great, something with meaning, something quirky. However we said, “let’s just stick with Hobbs Photography for now”. And Hobbs Photography it has stayed. And I’m happy about it.
3. Besides blogging, what is your favourite hobby?
Let’s be honest. Blogging isn’t fun. It’s the taking of the photos that is fun! When I’m not taking photos or editing photos, I’m hanging out with my kids, gardening or working on the farm. Lately nightly horse back rides with my husband around our land while the kids are in bed and the sun is setting. Swoon!
4. What is your favorite go-to fashion accessory and why?
Dresses. Summer, floral dresses. More of a staple than a fashion accessory. Throw it on and you instantly feel great and are ready for anything. From farm chores, to grocery store to a lunch date.
5. What is your go-to Starbucks drink order?
Matcha latte. Go get one. You won’t regret it.
6. What beauty product can you not live without?
I love supporting small, mama run shops. However, I don’t wear much in the beauty products category. Here are my favourites:
Desire Mist from Pura Botanicals. I mist this on my chest every single morning.
Powder and Blush from Moonrise Creek. – I adore every single product from this mama run shop.
7. What is your favorite TV show to binge watch?
I don’t watch a lot of television. However my husband and I love to watch Dragon’s Den or Shark Tank whenever it’s on. One day, I’ll be on it. ;)
8. Describe your ideal shopping experience- in store or online?
I love shopping. I have turned to online shopping a bit since having four kids. Shopping with four kids in tow is just not as enjoyable as alone, as you can imagine. So my ideal would be thrifting, with a girlfriend, matcha latte in hand. No kids. Ahhhhhhhhhh. In fact when my husband asked what I wanted for my birthday I said this exactly.
9. What is your favorite social media platform?
At the moment, Instagram. I have discovered so many great small businesses, inspiring photographers and mothers and made life long friends through it. They have recently made changes and I know soon it will be on to the next platform. I have recently signed up for periscope and snapchat and I feel like a fish out of water. No idea. Come find me. 10. What is the best resource you have found to help build your blog?
I love online workshops or attending workshops. I wish I could do it all the time. Ofcourse they cost money, so I try my best to pick the ones that will help me develop personally and professionally with my business, blog and art. I’m dying to attend this upcoming one in November — www.reallifeconference.com Anyone want to sponsor me to go? ;)
