Photography Workshops with Edmonton Photographers
How does the virtual workshop work? – You are welcomed into a Facebook group with all other attendees. In this private group we share the photos we are making, links to valuable information, and have daily feedback on questions and photos from Aimee and Jenna. Each week we meet via zoom for a lesson and discuss the weeks homework. There is also an assignment each week to work on, as well as a monthly assignment. We have a variety of workshops, so please see below.
Finding Moments virtual workshop – May 2021
In May we’re going to be focusing on one of our absolute favourite things – Finding Moments. Whether your focus is lifestyle, documentary or portraits, we’ll be talking about what moments are, why they’re so important, as well as how to anticipate them (or facilitate them in lifestyle and portraiture). We’ll be doing case studies of different photographers who do this well in different genres and there will be assignments to work on what you’re learning.
The workshop dates are: May 4, 11, 18, 25 on Zoom at 8pm MST.
Going Beyond virtual workshop – June 2021
In June, our workshop will be focused on Going Beyond. If you’re a creative human, you know the cycle of highs and lows and how it feels to be stuck in a creative rut or your work just isn’t progressing the way you would like. This whole month is going to be about pushing yourself beyond where you’re at. We’ll be looking at how to push yourself in all areas whether that be composition, use of light, finding and developing your voice, all in order to elevate our work. There will be weekly assignments, and we will be doing image critique.
The workshop dates are: June 1, 8, 15 and 22 on Zoom at 8pm MST.
Beginner Photography Virtual Workshop – July 2021
July we’ll be learning how to use your DSLR in aperture priority and manual mode. Also, we’re diving into the basics of light and composition so you can make photos you love. We’re going to be touching on tips and tricks to make stronger photos. There will be weekly assignments and constructive criticism.
The workshop dates are: July 6, 13, 20 and 27 on Zoom at 8pm MST.
“I really enjoyed the workshop. I think it was even more valuable in a virtual setting over 4 weeks (I was originally apprehensive about the virtual format) and having that time to digest everything. Also, wanted to say, that I felt that Aimee and Jenna were so generous with their time and it felt/feels like great value to me.” – Dea
“Loved it! Thank you for the laid-back teaching format, using beginner friendly language, and your patience! At first I was very “ughhhh” about the homework (this coming from a teacher lol) but I enjoyed every assignment and am grateful that it forced me to work with my camera everyday so that I would catch a submission I was happy with. You ladies are awesome!”
An Honest Self Portrait virtual workshop– September 2021
We will be going over all the technical aspects of how to make self-portraits as well as looking at some of our favourite self-portrait artists. We will be looking at the different genres of self-portraits and making them ourselves. Everything from environmental self-portraits, self-portraits for self-love and therapy, and creating self-portraits from a concept. Additionally, there will be weekly assignments to practice as well as a week of live critique which is super fun. The workshop dates are: September 7, 14, 21, & 28 on Zoom at 8pm MST
“Jenna and Aimee have a knack for teaching their art by holding students to a high standard while also creating a safe space for discovering, exploration, and learning. Their lessons and assignments were challenging and valuable. During the critiques, the tone was gentle but rigorous and through their thoughtful and detailed feedback, I felt challenged to do more and break out of my same old photo routines. The other students were just as impactful as the teachers and I felt truly bonded to the group by the end of the month. Months later I’m still buzzing from the inspiration and creativity from this course and highly recommend it to anyone!” – Nina
Finding Moments virtual workshop – October 2021

We’ll be doing case studies of different photographers who do this well in different genres and there will be assignments to work on what you’re learning.

We highly encourage attending all virtual workshop classes in person, but we understand that life happens. In the event that you miss class, we’ll share the video of it in the private Facebook group the following day. The prerequisite is being able to use a camera (except for the beginner workshop). Each month we will explore and practice the topic with teaching points, exploring other photographers’ work, weekly assignments as well as a monthly assignment for critique. Our goal is to push you to explore the world of art and photography and to improve on your skills as a photographer.
