JANUARY 2022 – BEGINNER PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Do you have a DSLR or mirrorless camera you don’t know how to REALLY use? Our Beginner Photography Workshop will help you with that!

You will learn how to use your camera in aperture priority mode first. Then you will be welcomed into the wonderful world of manual mode and the exposure triangle. If you have no idea what that means – that means you’re perfectly qualified. We will also be diving into the basics of how to see and use light and some rules of composition. In addition to those goodies, we’re learning tips and tricks to make better photos. There are weekly assignments and constructive criticism.

Prerequisite: You just need to have a DSLR or mirrorless camera

Workshop dates: January 4, 11, 18, 25, 2022 at 8pm MST via Zoom

“I really enjoyed the workshop. I think it was even more valuable in a virtual setting over 4 weeks (I was originally apprehensive about the virtual format) and having that time to digest everything. Also, wanted to say, that I felt that Aimee and Jenna were so generous with their time and it felt/feels like great value to me.” – Dea

FEBRURARY 2022 – AN HONEST SELF-PORTRAIT

Get in the frame and exist in photos with An Honest Self-Portrait.

We will be going over all the technical aspects of how to make self-portraits as well as looking at some of our favourite self-portrait artists. We will be looking at the different genres of self-portraits and making them ourselves. Everything from environmental self-portraits, self-portraits for self-love and therapy, and creating self-portraits from a concept. Additionally, there will be weekly assignments to practice as well as a week of live critique which is super fun.

Prerequisite: Be able to use a DSLR or mirrorless camera in aperture priority or manual mode

Workshop dates: February 1, 8, 15, 22, 2022 at 8pm MST via Zoom

“Jenna and Aimee have a knack for teaching their art by holding students to a high standard while also creating a safe space for discovering, exploration, and learning. Their lessons and assignments were challenging and valuable. During the critiques, the tone was gentle but rigorous and through their thoughtful and detailed feedback, I felt challenged to do more and break out of my same old photo routines. The other students were just as impactful as the teachers and I felt truly bonded to the group by the end of the month. Months later I’m still buzzing from the inspiration and creativity from this course and highly recommend it to anyone!” – Nina

MARCH 2022 – FINDING MOMENTS

This month we’re focusing on one of our absolute favourite things – Finding Moments. Whether your focus is lifestyle, documentary or portraits, we’ll be talking about what moments are, why they’re so important, as well as how to anticipate them (or facilitate them in lifestyle and portraiture).  We’ll be doing case studies of different photographers who do this well in different genres and there will be weekly assignments to work on what you’re learning.

If you want to move beyond just taking pretty pictures, elevate your work by infusing your photographs with meaning, then this is the workshop for you.

Prerequisite: Be able to use a DSLR or mirrorless camera in aperture priority or manual mode

Workshop dates: March 8, 15, 22, 29, 2022 at 8pm MST via Zoom

How Do Virtual Photography Workshops Work?

You are welcomed into a Facebook group with all other attendees. In this private group we share the photos we are making, links to valuable information, and have daily feedback on questions and photos from Aimee and Jenna. Each week we meet via zoom for a lesson and discuss the weeks homework. There is also an assignment each week to work on, as well as a monthly assignment.

One month – $200 CAD

Three months – $550 CAD!

We highly encourage attending all virtual workshop classes in person, but we understand that life happens.

If you miss a class no problem, we’ll share the video of it in the private Facebook group the following day. This also works great for all of our overseas students if the time change makes attending the virtual lessons difficult in real time.

Each month we will explore and practice the topic with teaching points, exploring other photographers’ work, weekly assignments as well as a monthly assignment for critique. (No need to find critique intimidating. It’s a powerful tool to help you learn!) Our goal is to push you to explore the world of art and photography and to improve on your skills as a photographer.
