In addition to those goodies, we’re learning tips and tricks to make better photos. There are weekly assignments and constructive criticism.
Prerequisite: You just need to have a DSLR or mirrorless camera
Workshop dates: January 11, 15, 22, 29, 2024 at 8pm MST via Zoom
Price: $200 CAD
“Jenna and Aimee have a knack for teaching their art by holding students to a high standard while also creating a safe space for discovering, exploration, and learning. Their lessons and assignments were challenging and valuable. During the critiques, the tone was gentle but rigorous and through their thoughtful and detailed feedback, I felt challenged to do more and break out of my same old photo routines. The other students were just as impactful as the teachers and I felt truly bonded to the group by the end of the month. Months later I’m still buzzing from the inspiration and creativity from this course and highly recommend it to anyone!” – Nina

APRIL 2024 – FINDING MOMENTS
This will be an amazing four weeks where we’re focusing on one of our absolute favourite things – Finding Moments. Whether your focus is lifestyle, documentary or portraits, we’ll be talking about what moments are, why they’re so important, as well as how to anticipate them (or facilitate them in lifestyle and portraiture). We’ll be doing case studies of different photographers who do this well in different genres and there will be assignments to work on what you’re learning.
If you want to move beyond just taking pretty pictures, elevate your work by infusing your photographs with meaning, then this is the workshop for you. A month of fun, challenge and growth.
Prerequisite: Be able to use a DSLR or mirrorless camera in aperture priority or manual mode

Jumping into how to make meaningful, authentic (in the true sense of the word) images while working on seeing and using available light effectively, composition, working a scene, and of course, timing, timing, timing. It’s going to be amazing. As always, weekly assignments and critique.

“I really enjoyed the workshop. I think it was even more valuable in a virtual setting over 4 weeks (I was originally apprehensive about the virtual format) and having that time to digest everything. Also, wanted to say, that I felt that Aimee and Jenna were so generous with their time and it felt/feels like great value to me.” – Dea
AUGUST 2024 – The ARTFUL SELF-PORTRAIT
We love making, talking about, looking at and teaching all things self-portrait. It is a soul filler for sure! So, what did we do, we made an advanced version of our original self-portrait workshop for everyone else who just can’t get enough. This workshop is centred on creating a self-portrait series – documentary-inspired or conceptual, we will be using our journals and imaginations in full force this month. Because we have a long list of self-portrait loves, we will be looking at self-portrait artists and photography series we adore, breaking down the moving parts in making a series, and of course – homework and critique.
CANNOT WAIT.
Prerequisite: have understanding and capability of how to create a self portrait

OCTOBER 2024 – EDITING BASICS
We’re going to unpack basic edits including how to make a beautiful black and white that doesn’t look like soggy newspaper. Our goal is always to achieve simple, timeless edits that enhance the photograph rather than becoming the focus of it. As always, there will be homework and feedback to help it all sink in.
Prerequisite: We will be doing all of our editing in Lightroom. However, you can edit in a program of your choosing if Lightroom isn’t your jam so long as you have the ability to adjust temperature, tint, exposure, saturation, whites, blacks, shadows, highlights and contrast.
