Family session and a home birth story

Best Edmonton birth photographer documents moms hands on her newborn baby

As a birth photographer we are on call, 24 hours a day, anxiously waiting for ‘the call’. It completely sucks, for lack of better words, when we don’t make it for a birth we so anxiously commit our time to. Though it doesn’t happen often, that when we get to do newborn photography which is pretty wonderful, too. This particular birth, the baby came so fast, he arrived earthside only eight minutes or so after getting the call on my end to come. However bummed I was, I am ecstatic to share the family session we did a few days new and some incredible, amazing news of how the whole birth went down. Read ahead for the news and scroll down for a peek at this gorgeous family of four.

Words from Alyssa, herself:

“When you are pregnant with your second boy in less than a year, you will get your fair share of comments.

“Two under two?! That’s going to be so much work.!”

“Two boys? Now you will have to try again for a girl.”

Yes, my arms will be full. Full of hugs.

We chose a midwife and home birth this time. Another choice that came with lots of scrutiny. I know you shouldn’t have an overly detailed birth plan but I’m a planner. We took a Hypnobabies course, rented a birthing pool and hired a birth photographer. In the end, my baby and body knew exactly what they were doing and in a flash baby Teil was born into his father’s loving hands, in the middle of my living room, while big brother Taz watched from the couch. On Father’s Day at that! No water birth, no birth photos, but we actually got more than we anticipated.

We got a whole lot more love than we ever imagined. Taz high fives mama more than twenty times while he stared in awe at his new baby brother.

Dad’s heart swelled with adoration for his family and asked mama to marry him!

Mama’s body felt instantly empty and heart extremely full as she looked around at the little miracles she created. Two perfect pieces of our hearts magically formed into these tiny little humans. Everyone in great health. Everything happened exactly as it was ever going to and we couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out. We will be riding tho shish for quite a while and it will get us through those hard days they told us we’d have.

Both born on the 19th, 19 months apart. Brothers for life.”

Congrats to you all. You are wonderful. I feel blessed to have been on this journey with you. xx
